A Message from Spencer

Athens is unique – known statewide, nationwide, and even worldwide for arts, academics, technical innovation, agriculture, and a vibrant fabric of urban lifestyle side-by-side with a preserved rural environment. Our city is renowned throughout the state for its distinctive combination of progressive thinking with traditional Southern charm.

But those of us who call Georgia home know that there is much work yet to be done in providing a strong education for our children, economic opportunities for our workers, transportation and communication infrastructure to bring Georgia into the 21st century, clean and abundant water resources, energy independence, and a more responsive and cost-efficient government.

My vision for Athens and Georgia is pragmatic and forward thinking, supporting real-world solutions such as the application of renewable energy sources, the creation of sustainable businesses, enacting cost-efficient neighborhood revitalization and affordable housing policies, and the promotion of new economic enterprises to secure our future in the 21st century.
